Sarah Jane lit torches, Maria opened the door and it is with the utmost discretion they went through the building to avoid detection. I love stories that involve ideas from fairy tales, and the method of defeating the bad guys is ingenious! The description of Sek really brings him to life.
So ambitious! At the same time, it's so, so simple - following Doctor Who's long standing tradition of turning something so ordinary (in this case sand) into something horribly... wrong. I get the sense that this is a writer operating out of their comfort zone - maybe English is a 2nd language? If that's the case, then they deserve all the more credit for investing their time in something so fundermentally... British!
Great to have Maria back again! The reunion scene between the whole gang is touching, and it's nice to see Rani and Maria finally meeting in the flesh. I love how Maria isn't even back for three seconds before she jumps into an epic new adventure! Fab stuff!
