Help me! Something is chasing her... white and angelic. She runs into Sarah Jane’s house. A party? But no, they’re drinking Bubbleshock and then - the lights flicker and everyone turns to stone. She looks at the world and her family don’t know she existed...

Rani's eyes shot open. Yes, it was morning and around seven o'clock, she gathered from a quick glance at her watch. What a strange dream. Maybe it was the future? She pondered over breakfast.
"You alright?" Her Dad waved his hand in front of her face. But Rani's expression didn't change: Should she warn Sarah Jane about it?
"Rani!" Haresh nudged her, his voice slightly irritated. Rani looked at him with raised eyebrows.
"Yes?"
"What's up with you?"
"Just thinking about school." She lied.
"Oh that's good. Mrs Coltrane says you are doing well in English. I'm pleas-"
"Yeah, it must be Luke's influence. Must be off then!" She interrupted, racing out of the kitchen.

Sarah Jane looked bemused. "Actually, they did happen not so long ago." She smiled, but Rani noticed that her smile was quivering, "That's strange."
"Sarah Jane, Rani, I think I may be me of some assistance." Mr Smith's monotonic voice boomed out, Sarah Jane turned to him expectantly. "Yes, continue."
"I have detected a change in telekinetic energy levels in some parts of England."
Sarah Jane sighed, "Meaning?"
"Some people have experienced retrocognition in the last twenty-four hours."

Clyde switched the camera on and sat back down on the bench. “Hello faithful viewers, I’m Clyde Langer, your host this evening on an exclusive documentary. This is... the gang.
Luke waved shyly, trying to get out of the camera view.
“I was thinking y’know, a name for the team? The Attic Crew? Sarah’s Students?”
“The Cult of Clyde?” Luke sniggered.
A shrill ringing came from Clyde’s pocket before he could reply.
"This is like an episode of Heroes!" He remarked after hearing the news, "Rani's been having dreams of the past."
"Retrocognitive dreaming?" Luke assured.
"Erm, something like that. Seriously creepy stuff. We have to get back there."

Mr Smith stopped scanning. “I have compiled a list of areas where the energy seems to be appearing.” A few papers shot out of the built-in printer and Sarah Jane studied them. "Something or someone has caused this energy production. And why is it that the people, who are affected by it, live in different places?" Sarah Jane pondered.
"Maybe it's to do with past experiences? Like... you all visited some place which got closed down, so only a few people could visit it... like a chocolate factory!" Clyde shoved the camera in Rani’s face.
"Oh yeah, I totally forgot about that Golden Ticket I found," Rani said, sarcastically.
"No, Clyde might be right. Mr Smith, can you pinpoint the source of the energy?"
"Of course," Mr Smith did his magic on the screen and the words 'BUCKINGHAM PALACE' appeared. Everyone stood there, mouths open in shock, before Clyde spoke: "It's Princess Anne! I knew it!"
Sarah Jane smirked, "Clyde, stop being facetious, this is serious. If it's Buckingham Palace..." Sarah paced around them, trying to work it out.
"I have been to Buckingham Palace for a school trip!” Rani recounted. (To which Clyde grinned at the camera.)
“Maybe they absorbed the energy and it got activated now. Otherwise the dreams would have happened before,” Luke smiled.
“That is possible,” Sarah Jane replied, grabbing her purse, “I think we need to check out Buckingham Palace ourselves.”

“I just thought, y’know, they might wanna, crown me king?” Clyde slide his hair back in slickness and posed for the camera, before tucking it away.
“King Clyde?” Rani chuckled, getting in the car, “Yeah, right.” Clyde pulled a face at her.
“I had a run in with the royals once,” Sarah reminisced, “In the Middle Ages. My first adventure...” She smiled and drove off.
“How are we gonna break in?” Clyde asked, his head peeking out the car window as they drove towards it.
“We won’t,” Sarah Jane winked at him from the mirror, “They are going to allow us in.”
Rani turned to Sarah, “But we can’t exactly say, ‘Hi! We’re here to investigate aliens!’ Can we?”
“Well...” Sarah passed her a purse, “An old friend of mine gave me a gift.”
Rani produced an old piece of paper, and read: “Sarah.. no, wait..” The words seemed to change before her eyes! She looked at Sarah Jane, eyebrows raised for an explanation.
“Psychic paper! It makes you believe what I want you to believe.”
“Groovy.” Clyde commented, getting out. The building stood with power and beauty, overlooking the city. The sky was shimmering blue and a cool air enveloped them as they approached the gates. With a quick buzz! from her Sonic Lipstick, the gates clicked open with ease. Luke felt royal as they approached the guards.
“Sarah Jane Smith, these are my agents. We work for Torchwood. (“Torchwood?!” Clyde whispered disbelievingly.)We’re investigating an alien attack which may harm Her Royal Highness.” She held the paper in front of their faces. Short, sharp and sweet! Rani was impressed.

After rechecking credentials and discussing between guards, they were let in. It was breathtaking. Luke noticed the exquisite painting of Queen Victoria and chuckled at the coincidence of working for Torchwood. Sarah opened her alien scanner and raised her wrist. “It’s over here! And it’s very strong.” She whispered, following the watch’s directions.

“A wine cellar?” Clyde didn’t sound too amazed at where they had ended up. “What aliens are these? The Drinksters?”
“That doesn’t make sense,” Luke said, “This wine cellar was recently built, you can tell by the wood grains. If the energy is coming from here, then it must have been here before the palace was built.”
“Don’t you think that we should plan everything back home and then sort this out? It’s sort of big thing, don’t you think?” Rani added her two cents and Sarah Jane instantly agreed.

Later that night, Sarah Jane sat at the foot of her bed, biting her lip. "This is silly," she told herself, "Whatever dream I have, I have. There is no way of stopping or changing it." She reassured herself and lied down, almost as if the bed was scorching hot and she was being very careful. Soon, her fatigue overcame her and she was plunged into an ocean of sleep.

It is so dark and lonely and cold. I make friends, but they disappear... it’s a Dalek – run! It’s coming closer: I am not alone. And now the fate of the world is at my hands. His eyes glare at me... Davros...

"LUKE!" Sarah Jane screamed. But Luke was having a different dream...

It’s quite dull here. It used to be fun and adventurous, but now... a trip to a school. The chips don’t eat the chips. “Hello, Sarah Jane.” No, the Krillitanes! They are going to crack the Skasas Paradigm!

Luke's eyes fluttered open, his face quizzical. He wasn't scared by this, just... surprised. Him and Rani were having dreams of his mother... Maybe the retrocognition was centred on the most important thing in your life?

Warm, orange sunlight poured through the windows and Luke was up early. His mum walked in, light bags under her eyes, with a mug of coffee.
“Sleep alright?” Luke asked, then realising what a stupid question that was. “I mean, did you plan anything?”
“Well,” Sarah took a huge gulp of her coffee like she desperately needed it, “No.”
“I did,” Luke beamed, handing her a few sheets of paper, “Last night, me and Mr Smith studied it.” Sarah hugged Luke in a moment of parental love.

“A space pod?” Clyde couldn’t believe his eyes, “... in Buckingham Palace?”
“Which caused the energy readings,” Luke continued, “It was buried before the palace was built. The energy seems to be giving people the ability dream the past, so it may be an SOS call.”
“But we don’t know if it’s good or not. It could be a trick. Like that pesky Graske,” Rani grimaced.
“Well, whatever it is, we need to sort it out before the whole of London goes into panic.” Sarah Jane said. They all paused for a moment. Rani spent the time reminiscing on how she got here. She had just moved in and already, she was plunged into a world of aliens and adventure. Her eyes widened as she realised something; her arm twitching as if she knew the answer and wanted to scream it out. “Sarah Jane!” She jumped off her seat and everyone looked at her, “The aliens, they must be connected to the Jeggorabax Cluster!”
“How do you mean?” Sarah was inquisitive.
“These dreams we’ve been having... it’s like they’re emotionally connected with people who have influenced our lives. I had dreams of Maria’s adventures... Luke, you had dreams of Sarah Jane... and Sarah Jane, the Doctor. How about you, Clyde?”
Clyde looked up from his camera and hesitated, “My parents.”
“Exactly!” Rani was proud, “Things which are prominent in our minds.”
Sarah Jane smiled, “Mr Smith, can you confirm this?”
“Of course,” he replied, “One moment.” He pinpointed the location of the energy and then compared the data with that of the previously encountered Pied Piper. “I can confirm that the energy is similar to that of the Jeggorabax Cluster, possibly coming from a nearby planet.”
“That must mean the energy are the aliens themselves. And there is a spaceship -” Sarah Jane was cut off by Mr Smith.
“Correction, there is half a spaceship trapped beneath Buckingham Palace.” Mr Smith noted as a matter-of-fact. “And in answer to your next question, I scanned the data via your watch and used ultrasonic projection to illustrate the exact shape of the pod. It seems to have been ripped in half, almost torn.” An image of the said ship drew itself on the screen like an Etch-a-Sketch.
“It’s like, half of it was taken away,” Clyde gazed at the drawing, “And what we’ve been dreaming about is all about our family and friends and their importance... Maybe the other half wants these aliens back? Like family?”
Sarah Jane clapped her hands, “That’s it! The aliens are trying to find the rest of their family, who are separated from them, and they are trying to escape. And their family is important, hence the dreams we’ve been having.” She grabbed her bag and signalled for them to go. But Luke stopped everyone. “If the aliens are coming out of their ship, then we could help them return to the other half. All we need is a teleportation device.”

“The rare species called Rani sits here in her natural habitat...” Clyde zoomed in, his voice Attenborough-esque.. Rani rolled her eyes and moved the lens away. They had parked further back than they had previously parked to avoid any suspicion. “And to also avoid suspicion,” Sarah continued from her thoughts, “I am going in. With the Slitheen pendant.” she dangled it in front of her.

She had expressly forbidden them from coming inside, but it was all for the best, Rani had gathered. Sarah Jane used the pensive transit (“That means that you have to think of where you want to go to get there,” Luke had explained) of the Slitheen pendant to teleport to the wine cellar. She opened her watch to detect where the energy was most rich and placed the pendant on the spot. Her heart skipped a beat as she awaited... silver, gaseous energy began to form around the jewel, wisping out so it looked like a cauliflower. The piercing green glow was now completely masked in the grey mist and then, right before her eyes, the gas shot upwards in an epic emerald column! It ran up, piercing through the white clouds and into space and then it evaporated. Back home. With the rest of the family. Where it belongs.

“It just shows, doesn’t it,” Rani commented, “How everyone thinks of aliens as being really bad, but sometimes... they’re just like us. Just normal.” Sarah hugged her, before letting herself fall on the couch with tire.
“Come on then, Clyde, let’s see this video.”
Clyde popped it in the VCR and sat back, “Be prepared,” he boasted, “For the best movie ever, made by yours truly.”
A clip of a baby Clyde in a nappy came up instead, and Clyde’s face went deep red. How embarrassing!
“Is that really you?!” Luke was amused, and Rani tugged Clyde’s cheek teasingly.

All was well.

What a neat idea! The dream sequences have a very cool ethereal quality, and the kids' dialogue especially is snappy.
Wow! The author has captured not only the tone of the show perfectly, but the characters that reside in it. Honestly, the Clyde in print there and the Clyde I see on screen, they're identical! So well done for that, and the dream sequences too. Chilling! I'd love to see this developed into a longer piece, with the plot allowed that bit much more space to breathe.
Nice use of the family theme, thoroughly enjoyable read. Loved the subplot of Clyde shooting a documentary of the gang, very original. Witty dialogue, and a hilarious ending. Great job, Entry 5!
